Refugee and Humanitarian Visa Options

Under this, there are five options provided to the applicant under different circumstances with varying terms and conditions. 

1. Protection Visa (Subclass 866)

Anyone arriving Australia on a valid visa who seeks asylum can apply with fee of AUD 40 for Protection Visa (subclass 866). Upon fulfilling all the requirements for the grant of visa, permanent residency is allowed.

2. Temporary Protection Visa (Subclass 785)

Anyone arriving Australia illegally without a visa and seeks asylum can apply with fee of AUD 40 for Temporary Protection Visa (subclass 785). Upon fulfilling all the requirements for the grant of visa, 3 years stay is granted.

3. Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (Subclass 790)

Anyone arriving Australia illegally without a visa and seeks asylum can apply with fee of AUD 40 for Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (subclass 790). Upon fulfilling all the requirements for the grant of visa, 5 years stay is granted.

4. Refugee Visa (Subclass 200, 201, 203,and 204)

Such visas are granted especially upon the referral of United Nations High Commissioners for Refugees (UNHCR). Such referrals are issued only on the ground that the applicant is subject to persecution in his/her homeland. 

Costs associated to the travel and other like medical examinations and cultural orientations overseas before arriving Australia, is borne by the Australian Government. Such visas allow staying permanently with immediate family with no restrictions to work and study.
