Professional Year Program in Australia

What is the Professional Year Program?

The Professional Year Program (PYP) is a skill development program designed for international students who have graduated from an Australian college or university. The program provides formal learning and practical work experience in the Australian workplace to help students gain expert-level knowledge and proficiency in their skills.

The PYP is available in three subject areas: accounting, computer science (IT), and engineering. The program is specifically designed for students who wish to apply for permanent residency in Australia. Upon completion of the program, international students are eligible to receive five extra points on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) ‘points test’ when applying for a Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa.

What Does the Professional Year Program Include?

The PYP includes 32 weeks of intensive coursework covering Australian work practices, followed by a 12-week internship to gain valuable work experience. In addition, the program focuses on developing and improving written and verbal business communication skills, job hunting tips and tricks, and simulated workplace training. Students also receive coursework for the BSB40215 Certificate IV in Business and unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning during their enrolment in the program.

Furthermore, the program offers free online PTE-A or IELTS English test preparation training, as well as free professional development workshops and networking events. Students also have the option to transfer between eight campuses (subject to availability) and receive ongoing career counseling.
